Preventive health check-ups

A preventive health check-up looks for silent problems such as high sugar, high BP, high cholesterol, fatty liver or early heart changes before they cause harm. At Medcare in Bongaigaon, every check-up starts with a consultation with Dr. Tamoghna Das, who plans the tests based on your age, health, family history and lifestyle. There are no fixed packages, so no test is repeated or wasted.

At a glance

  • How it works: consultation first, then a test plan for you, then a results visit
  • Done at Medcare: BP, weight and waist, body composition, HbA1c and finger-prick sugar, ECG, echo, spirometry and foot checks, as needed
  • Blood and urine tests: at a lab of your choice
  • Who should come: adults over 30 every year or as advised, and younger adults with a family history or risk factors
  • What you get: results explained, your risk in plain words, and a written plan

Why we do not sell packages

Fixed packages often include tests you do not need and miss tests you do. A 28-year-old woman with a family history of thyroid disease needs a different check-up from a 55-year-old man who smokes and has diabetes in the family. Planning tests after a consultation gives better answers and avoids unnecessary costs.

What a check-up may include

Depending on your age and risks:

  • Heart and BP: BP, ECG, cholesterol profile, and echo for some people
  • Sugar: fasting sugar or HbA1c
  • Weight and metabolism: BMI, waist, body composition
  • Liver and kidneys: liver and kidney function tests, urine tests
  • Thyroid: TSH, especially for women and people with symptoms
  • Blood count: for anaemia
  • Lungs: spirometry for smokers and people with breathlessness
  • Cancer screening advice: cervical, breast, mouth and bowel screening as suitable for your age, with referral where needed
  • Vaccines: advice on adult vaccines such as flu, pneumonia, hepatitis B and tetanus

FAQs

At what age should I start regular check-ups?

A first check-up in your 20s or early 30s is useful, then regular checks from about 30 onwards, or earlier if you have a family history of diabetes or heart disease. How often you need them depends on your results and risks. Dr. Das will set a schedule for you.

Do I need to come fasting?

Some blood tests, such as fasting sugar and sometimes cholesterol, need 8 to 10 hours without food. Water is allowed. Tests done at Medcare, such as ECG, echo and HbA1c, do not need fasting. Ask when you book.

Is an echo part of every check-up?

No. An echo is advised when there is a reason, such as long-standing diabetes or high BP, symptoms, an abnormal ECG or a heart murmur. Dr. Das decides after examining you.

Can I bring my family together for check-ups?

Yes. Many families come together, especially when parents have diabetes or high BP. Each person still has their own consultation, so the tests suit their age and health.

What happens if something abnormal is found?

Dr. Das explains what it means, whether more tests are needed, and what to do next. Many early problems need only lifestyle changes and regular checks. If treatment is needed, it can usually start at Medcare.
