Internal medicine
Internal medicine is the branch of medicine that looks after adults with medical problems affecting any part of the body, from short illnesses like fever to long-term conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure. Dr. Tamoghna Das holds an MD in Medicine from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital and has more than 10 years of experience as a medicine specialist. At Medcare in Bongaigaon, he is often the first doctor to see you, works out what is wrong, and either treats it or guides you to the right next step.
At a glance

Why see a physician
Many symptoms have more than one possible cause. Tiredness may come from anaemia, thyroid problems, diabetes, sleep apnea, depression or heart disease. Breathlessness may come from the lungs, the heart or anaemia. A physician is trained to think across all of these, test sensibly, and treat the whole person rather than one organ at a time.
People with several long-term conditions especially benefit, because medicines for one problem can affect another. Dr. Das reviews all your medicines together to keep treatment safe and simple.
Problems we look after
Also seen: tiredness and weakness, acidity and stomach upsets, urinary problems, dizziness, vitamin deficiencies, and review of many medicines.

FAQs
What is the difference between an MD Medicine doctor and a general physician?
An MD in Medicine is a 3-year postgraduate specialist degree in internal medicine after MBBS. MD physicians are trained to diagnose and manage complex adult illnesses, especially when several conditions are present together. Dr. Das completed his MD at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in 2015.
Should I see a physician or a specialist first?
For most new adult symptoms, a physician is the right first doctor. Many problems can be fully managed by the physician. If you need a specialist or a procedure, the physician can explain why and which kind of specialist you need, so you do not move from clinic to clinic.
Can I bring all my medicines for review?
Please do. Bring every tablet, injection, inhaler and supplement you take, including those from other doctors. Dr. Das will check for duplicates, interactions and medicines you may no longer need.
Do you treat children?
Medcare looks after adults and older teenagers. Young people with type 1 diabetes are welcome. For young children, please see a paediatrician.
